2nd Grade

How are we connected to the past and how can we make our community better?

Our second graders have been hard at work creating community in the classroom and in the school.  We advertise school spirit days through public announcements and posters.  We work and play with all members of our 2nd grade classes.

Along with building community at school, we are learning about our own personal histories, realizing that each and every one of us has a family member who came from another country to live in the United States.  They may have come by boat, horse, walking, or by plane but they all came because they wanted a better life.  It is as much true today as it was 200 years ago.

With our visits to Oak Mound Cemetery looking at names and places from where these former residents came, studying the architectural heritage of Healdsburg at the Healdsburg Museum, and studying the statues that are in our beautiful plaza, we are gaining an understanding of the uniqueness of Healdsburg.

After visiting and speaking with Ray Holley from the Healdsburg Tribune, we will begin our assignment as writers for our own school paper.  “Extra, extra!  Read All About It!”
